Kenneth & Christine at Lincoln Rock

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life, and it's natural to want it to be unforgettable! From the ceremony to the reception, every detail should reflect your unique personality and style. As someone who has captured the heartfelt moments of hundreds of weddings, here are my five ideas to make your wedding day unforgettable:

Consider having a First Look

A “first look” is a private moment between the bride and groom before the wedding ceremony, where they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. The couple arranges to meet in a quiet and secluded area, away from family and friends, where they can share an intimate moment together.

This is often a highly emotional and unforgettable moment, and it allows the couple to spend some time alone before the hectic wedding day begins. We love to capture this special moment on camera, which always makes for beautiful and heartfelt photographs and film.

Plan your bridal portraits at Golden Hour

If you're looking to capture some truly breathtaking wedding photos, then scheduling your bridal portraits during the "golden hour" is a must. Golden hour is the hour before sunset when the natural light is soft, warm and flattering, creating a dreamy, ethereal glow. We absolutely love taking photos and filming during this time! The warm and soft light at this time gives your skin a warm, flattering tone that will make you glow. The light also creates stunning contrasts, making your dress, accessories and surroundings pop.

Golden hour depends heavily on which season your wedding date is in. Please use the below guide to determine when your golden hour is.

Golden hour by month

December, January, and February - 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

March, April and May - 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

June, July and August - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

September, October, November - 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Recite Personalised Vows instead of Traditional Vows

As a seasoned wedding photographer, I've witnessed countless couples exchange vows during their ceremony. But the ones that truly stand out are those who take the time to prepare and recite their own personalized vows. These heartfelt and genuine expressions of love and commitment make for some of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of the entire wedding day.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with traditional vows, they’re just a tad boring. Writing your own vows is definitely a meaningful way to express your love and commitment. You can incorporate anecdotes and memories that are special to you both, like Patrick and Jasmine in the video below:

Letter Reading

Before the ceremony, take a moment to read letters that you've written to each other. Letter reading can be a meaningful and intimate moment for couples to express their feelings, hopes, and dreams to each other before they officially become spouses. It can also be a great way to calm nerves and share words of encouragement and support.

We love capturing this moment because it commonly produces emotional and intimate reactions. Overall, letter reading is a personal and special tradition that can add an extra layer of emotion and connection to a wedding day.

Exit your wedding with a Bang!

We’re going end this guide with a banger! A sparkler exit is a magical way to end your wedding night. As you and your partner make your way out of the reception, your guests can light sparklers and create a tunnel of light for you to walk through.

It's a beautiful and romantic way to end your special day, and it makes for amazing photo and film opportunities. Make sure to check with your venue to ensure that sparklers are allowed and that safety precautions are in place.
